Good morning, friends! Pull up a chair on the porch — Uncle Ricky, Biscuit, and Olive have a verse to share with you today.
Uncle Ricky: Good Tuesday morning, friends! Come on out on the porch — Monday is behind us, the week is rolling, and Uncle Ricky has a word for anybody whose plans are already not going according to plan today.
Biscuit: That is me, Uncle Ricky. I planned this whole Tuesday out minute by minute — chores first, snacks second, nap third — and it all fell apart before breakfast. The plan was perfect. Tuesday just would not cooperate.
Olive: I tried to arrange the whole morning too! I picked the exact branch, the exact song, the exact time the sun should peek through — and then the wind moved everything around!
Uncle Ricky: Ha! Well, you two have planned us straight to today’s Scripture. This is David’s counsel for folks who hold their plans with a very tight grip. Listen to Psalm chapter 37, verse 5: “Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
Biscuit: Commit thy way? Uncle Ricky, what does commit even mean here? Does it mean I just tell God my plan and ask Him to sign at the bottom?
Uncle Ricky: Ha! Not quite, son. That word commit carries the picture of rolling a heavy load off your own shoulders and onto stronger ones. Your way — your path for today, your work, your worries about how it will all turn out — God invites you to roll the whole bundle over onto Him. He can carry what wears us clean out.
Olive: So we still walk the way, we just do not carry the worry about the way? We walk, and He carries the heavy part?
Uncle Ricky: Exactly right, Olive. And notice the middle of the verse: “trust also in him.” Committing and trusting go together. We hand Him our way, and then we trust Him with how it unfolds — not just with the parts we can see, but with the turns we cannot. Now isn’t that exciting? The God who made the road also walks it with us.
Biscuit: Okay, but here is my honest question. It says “he shall bring it to pass.” Does that mean He will make my exact plan happen, minute by minute, snacks second and nap third?
Uncle Ricky: Now that is the question we all ask, Biscuit. And the honest answer is no — He promises to bring it to pass His way, in His time, and what He brings to pass is better than the plan we were gripping so tight. Our plans fuss over minutes. His plan takes care of the whole life. I’d call that a gift from God, wouldn’t you?
Olive: Like the sunrise! I cannot make it come, and I cannot hurry it — but when I just perch and trust, up it comes, right on time, prettier than anything I planned!
Uncle Ricky: Oh, I love that, Olive. Friends, most of a Tuesday is just this: the work in front of you, a decision you are weighing, a family need you cannot fix by fretting over it. Psalm 37 does not tell us to stop planning or stop working. It tells us where to roll the outcome. Pray over your plans, do the next faithful thing in front of you, and leave the bringing-to-pass to the Lord.
Biscuit: Hmm. So maybe my problem is not that Tuesday fell apart. Maybe my problem is I was gripping the steering wheel so tight my paws hurt, and it was never my wheel to begin with.
Uncle Ricky: Son, you just preached the whole devotion. We wear ourselves out trying to control an ending God never asked us to control. Commit thy way — roll it onto Him. Trust also in Him — rest your heart while you walk. And He shall bring it to pass — that last part is His job, and He has never once failed at it.
Olive: Then I am committing my little flights today! Walk where He leads, sing where He puts me, and let Him bring the rest to pass!
Biscuit: And I am rolling my Tuesday bundle right over to Him — chores, snacks, nap, and all. Number one helper reporting for Tuesday duty — open paws, trusting heart!
Uncle Ricky: Ha! That’s the spirit, both of you. Friends, let’s pray together. Father, thank You for this Tuesday, and thank You that we can commit our way unto You. Forgive us for gripping our plans so tight and carrying worries You offered to carry. Teach us to trust You with the outcome, to do the next faithful thing today, and to rest in Your promise that You shall bring it to pass. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Uncle Ricky: Commit thy way unto the LORD this week, friends. Roll your plans and your worries onto Him, trust Him with the turns you cannot see, and watch Him bring it to pass in His good time. Doesn’t that make you feel great?
